In the 12th Congressional District of Texas in Fort Worth this afternoon, 60+volunteers responded to the call from the Vanessa Adia for Congress campaign. That’s a remarkable turnout in a Republican district in Texas 17 months out from the 2018 general election.
Vanessa is a publicschool teacher running as a liberal/progressive Democrat. I haven’theard other names rumored to run as a Democrat in TX-12. And I hadnot met her before. But she makes a good impression, is solid on theissues, and comes across very well in person and in a group setting.
If she wins theprimary next year, she will go up against Kay Granger, a quiet butsolid House Republican.
Granger, a formermayor of Fort Worth, enjoys a better reputation than she deserves, mostly because she was a pretty decent mayor for several terms. ButGranger shows no independence from the worst of Republicanism and noresponsiveness to calls for a Town Hall and little responsiveness onissues.
She thus will beformidable.
Adia (https://www.vanessaadia.com/)is starting early as she must.
I met her this afternoon at her first general volunteerorientation. She is impressive. She is articulate, thoughtful, firm, passionate, and supported by a circle of friends who made the mostour orientation. She is clearly on the right side of all key issues.
Remember her name: Vanessa Adia. She deserves support from DailyKos members.
Lockheed Martin is huge in this town and Granger enjoys theirsupport. But Tarrant County is the last Republican bastion among themajor metropolitan areas of Texas. A decent blue wave can sweepGranger out. And Vanessa Adia is the one who should be swept in.
Check out her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/VanessaAdiaforCongress/.And throw her some dollars if you can. She’s committed to small-donor fundraising. Help show her that that decision is a good one. I intend to.
