Nothing exemplifies just how far off the radar of human decency this Administration has sunken to than its granting this week of White House Press Credentials to the cadre of scum known as “Infowars.”
On Monday, Infowars announced it has been granted press credentials that will allow Washington bureau chief Jerome Corsi — a prominent swiftboater and birther — to attend White House press briefings.
Later that same day, Infowars founder Alex Jones smeared the victims of the attack during the Ariana Grande show in Manchester that killed at least 22 people, describing them as “liberal trendies.”
As most are aware, the sick fuck who runs this shop is named Alex Jones. Our conspiracy-enamored occupant of the Oval Office thinks Jones (who is also responsible for spreading the myth that the kids killed at Sandy Hook were the victims of an “inside job” and that the whole thing was a hoax) is simply the greatest thing since sliced bread, that his “reputation is amazing.” Jones has advised Trump on the so-called phenomenon of “election fraud,” another baseless theory, and Trump dutifully followed his lead by asserting, falsely, that millions of illegal votes cast during the 2016 election kept him from winning the popular vote.
The Infowars article announcing the publication’s new White House credentials notes that Jones “may even attend some White House press briefings in person.”
When someone like this is given the privilege of White House Press credentials, it elevates rank idiocy to a position where can it haughtily demand respect. It’s not much different than the Roman Emperor Caligula naming his horse to the Roman Senate, as an insult to that body which he considered a mere annoyance. Here, it’s an insult to the American institution of a fair and free press, and by extension a middle finger to all Americans who depend on the White House press corps as a vehicle for Americans to understand what their government is doing. But it’s even more that—it’s an example of sheer callousness, a piling on of disrespect toward the victims of monstrous crimes like Sandy Hook and Manchester. It’s rubbing salt into grieving people’s open wounds and being gleeful about it. This is how far down Trump is dragging us:
[D]uring his rant, Jones characterized the victims as “a bunch of liberals who have already run up the white flag to the Islamists, and this happens so more of our liberties can be lost, and so governments in Europe, the U.K., and the U.S. can say, ‘Don’t criticize Muslims, or they’ll blow you up, because they’re the religion of peace.’”
The people murdered yesterday included several children. The identities of all the victims have not been released, but one was this eight year-old girl:
There’s really no words that can adequately describe someone whose first reaction to the mass murder of young people and children would be to smear them. That Trump would put somebody like this in the White House Press corps is about as disgusting a testament to his lack of character as can be imagined.
Note— According to some sources the Press Credentials were temporary only.
Neither the White House nor the White House Correspondents Association immediately returned Business Insider's request for comment about whether InfoWars has applied for or received a permanent White House press credential.
Doesn’t matter.
