This man understood, as did George Washington, that he was just a citizen. Not a general, not a potentate, not a king. Just a man who was tasked with the responsibility of taking care of a huge number of other people, tasked with keeping them safe. Mr. Washington deliberately declined a title. He insisted on being called ‘Mister’.
Pardon me, I was just re-watching Mr. Obama’s session his last White House correspondents' dinner. This moment happens at the 30 minute mark.
This is what a president looks like, this is what a president should look like. I can think of few others.. among them men like JFK and TDR, who understood that.
THESE people, these people who give up their privacy, their personal predilections and wants are the ones who help us be great. No hat required.
