Republicans, Democrats, conservatives have been the heavies since, well forever. Betcha didn’t know that pints & gallons, inches & miles are the only measures acceptable to the ‘Lord’. Not sure where the cubit went, maybe it wasn’t a Christian measure.
The United States system of units is similar to the British imperial system.[4] Both systems are derived from English units, a system which had evolved over the millennia before American independence, and which had its roots in Roman and Anglo-Saxon units.
The customary system was championed by the U.S.-based International Institute for Preserving and Perfecting Weights and Measures in the late 19th century. Advocates of the customary system saw the French Revolutionary, or metric, system as atheistic.[5] An auxiliary of the Institute in Ohio published a poem with wording such as "down with every 'metric' scheme" and "A perfect inch, a perfect pint".[5] One adherent of the customary system called it "a just weight and a just measure, which alone are acceptable to the Lord."[5]
I’m not particularly hostile to imperial measures, but I do realize that base 10 is a much easier way to deal with any kind of measurement. I still don’t know how many furlongs are in a mile and asking ‘How many acres do you have out back?’ is how you cheat in Pinochle.
Today’s diary is about the kilogram (kg). The kilogram is a chunk of metal (90% platinum, 10% iridium) called the International prototype kilogram (IPK). It is jailed up at the Pavillon de Breteuil, a building located in Saint-Cloud, France near Paris.
Originally the kilogram was originally defined as, essentially the mass of 1 liter of water at 0o C in 1795 and refined to be the weight of 1 cubic decimeter (a liter) of water at 4o C.

Science doesn’t like the IPK anymore. It keeps losing or gaining mass. They want a new defining kg.

One kilogram of silicon… priceless!
Here is the story of the American cousins of the International prototype kilogram.
Did you ever think that one had to take buoyancy into account?
Well, last week I showed how some folk take weight off. I leave you now with this weighty subject…
Now, here’s your quiz. How many newtons in a pound? ( ͡ᵔ ͜ʖ ͡ᵔ )
Thanks for stopping by Mick’s Cafe Kosablanca. Have a wonderful Sunday.
