In response to this diary a good longtime kossack commented
And therein lies the problem….
“I am enthused and will attend a march on June 3 in support of the Resistance.
I am not enthused and won’t attend the Beyond the Resistance event.
But I hope the folks who will attend the Beyond the Resistance event will attend the Resistance march on June 3. I hope everyone who wants to resist Trump and the Republicans does.’’
I believe you wrote above that this is what you call a “coalition.”
“To me that’s called coalition.”
Yep — that’s what you called it.
“But I still want them to be a part of the Resistance. So long as they are for Resisting Trump, not attacking Dems in The Resistance.
To me that’s called coalition.”
No. that’s an abusive relationship. This is why those groups re gathering to talk about how to change the Democratic Party. They’re tired of being shat upon, being taken advantage of, as their support is taken utterly for granted.
As for your view of what’s good for the Party — the only people who care about what’s good for the Party are those who are getting paid well by the Party. The rest of us care about what’s good for the country — the direction of the country.
Disagreeing about “direction of the Democratic Party?” It’s down. There’s really no room for disagreement. The direction of the Democratic party is clearly straight down, both over a long, slow slide over 40 years, and also shockingly fast. So, really the question is whether one wants to continue that direction, or do something different. People say Trump is insane. Who wants to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results?
I want to change the Democratic Party because I want to change the direction of the country — a direction which didn’t start November 8th. It got worse, to be sure — much worse— but we were in great trouble before that. Most of us, anyway.
And, no resistance has to be about more than Trump, if you want it to be successful. You have to offer the kind of positive alternative that was missing when we lost to the Orange Tyrant. Unless, of course, you want to keep losing.
My emphasis. I bring this comment up because it raises the following inescapable questions for me:
1/ Is it your view that the Democratic Party is abusing you if your viewpoints do not prevail inside the Party?
2/ How much of your views must prevail for it not to be an abusive relationship?
3/ Is not prevailing on your views in the Democratic Party “shitting” on you?
4/ How much of your views must prevail for it not to be the Democratic Party “shitting” on you?
5/ Do you REALLY believe ONLY you and yours care about “what’s good for the country?”
6/ If someone disagrees with you does that mean they don’t care “what’s good for the country?”
7/ How much must someone agree with you to be deemed to care “what’s good for the country?”
8/ Do you REALLY believe the last 40 years has been a “long slow slide for the Democratic Party?”
9/ Is it your view the Democratic Party is worse ideologically than it was in 1977? If so, in what ways?
10/ Do you think the Democratic Party has gotten worse in the last 40 years on race, gender and sexual orientation?
11/ If you do not, should that matter to you?
Finally, and most importantly, the following questions:
12/ If The Resistance does not become the particular “positive alternative” you desire, will you not be a part of it?
13/ Will you be hoping the Democrats lose because of that?
These are home questions in my opinion.
Because if The Resistance MUST espouse YOUR views of what the Democratic Party should be in order for you to join it, then you’re not part of The Resistance.
Do Not Pass Go. Go Directly to Beyond The Resistance.
We’ll see you in the primaries next year.
