Mike McCabe, founder of the indispensable WI Democracy Campaign, is considering challenging Scott Walker in 2018.
(Uppity Wisconsin and Jake’s Economics Funhouse have great coverage of this, but it needed to get up on DailyKos.)
In addition to decades of work on campaign finance, government transparency, and small-d democracy, McCabe knows how to distill progressive values into a message that resonates with (rural) folks who might not have realized they were progressive.
I’ll shut up and let him speak for himself:
The wrinkle here is that McCabe has made a career of non-partisan (but definitely progressive) activism, and there’s a little uncertainty about whether he would run as a Democrat or maybe an independent. This interview with Uppity Wisconsin makes it sound like he’s leaning towards running as a Democrat and will announce by Labor Day.
If you’ve followed his career and heard him speak, he really seems to have “it.” (And he even has stories about growing up on a dairy farm!) He would be an outstanding Democratic candidate (…and I don’t even want to think about him running as an independent.) Can you imagine McCabe on the same debate stage as Scott Walker? Wowzers.
Get on the #DraftMcCabe Train!
In addition to the original #DraftMcCabe letter, there is a Change.org petition asking him to run.
Go. Sign it. Now. And add a comment asking him to run as a Democrat!
