Dear Congressman/Congresswoman X,
Years ago, Chuck Noll, the legendary coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers used to call players who were about to be cut from the squad into his office. Once there, Noll would gently give them the bad news by saying “What did you plan to do with the rest of your life after football?” With your immoral, self-serving vote yesterday to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) with a terrible, depraved and obscene bill, the American Health Care Act (Trumpcare) I want you to remember those words uttered by Coach Noll.
But I want you to remember something else. I will make it my calling to make you feel the same fear and anguish that many of your constituents are feeling now with the possible loss of their healthcare. It will become my preoccupation to make your life as a Congressperson as miserable as those of your constituents who now once again dread the loss of their health, homes, possessions, livelihoods and lives, as well as those of their loved ones. It will be my life’s work to tattoo your vote yesterday on your forehead for the rest of your professional life. And it will be my obsession to make you remember the words of Coach Noll on election day, 2018. Because much like the 10th round draft pick defensive tackle from Eastern Michigan University, you are going to be needing a new job...soon.
What did you plan to do with the rest of your life after public service?
