I have spoken with Mahakali Overdrive and she has decided not to seek reinstatement because she has not been informed regarding any rules she broke or the reason why she was banned. She asks that people not petition the owner of this blog for her reinstatement.
Instead, she asks that anyone upset about the banning donate a small amount (or large if you can afford it) to one of these two organizations, both of which she holds dear and in high esteem.
Centro Laboral de Graton (CLG) (Graton Day Labor)
Centro Laboral de Graton (CLG) is a worker-led day labor center that organizes with domestic workers and day laborers in West Sonoma County, CA for the advancement of their rights and dignity as workers, as immigrants, and as members of the broader community. CLG offers a hiring process to employers that is democratic, fair, and transparent. This process has been developed over 15 years of organizing with workers, and seeks to embody and support the vision and mission of CLG.
Vision: To promote healthy communities that value inclusion and respect, so that day laborers, domestic workers, and their families, may live and work with justice and dignity
Mission: To advance and protect the human, labor and civil rights of day laborers, domestic workers, and their families.
OR
Ella Baker Center
We are named after Ella Baker, a brilliant, black hero of the civil rights movement. Following in her footsteps, we build the power of black, brown, and poor people to break the cycles of incarceration and poverty and make our communities safe, healthy, and strong.
Everyone wants to live in a healthy and strong community that they have the opportunity to help shape.
But prisons, policing, and punishment-based approaches make us less safe, and prevent people of color and low-income communities from influencing policies that impact our lives. Communities face struggling schools, family separation, and a lack of opportunities as a direct result of being disproportionately policed and punished.
We must engage in a process of Truth and Reinvestment: telling the truth about the impact of our country’s long history of racial injustice, building the power of those who have been harmed, and engaging them as leaders to reinvest resources in healing our communities.
In a world where resources are invested in growth and support instead of punishment and prisons we will all be able to reach our full potential. Communities with more opportunity for everyone are safer, healthier, and more just for all.
MO spent nine years here and has many fond memories of her time here. Donating to these groups would make her “much happier than any meta could and would take a bad situation and, in a moment, turn it into a good one for other communities and vulnerable people who are truly in great need in the California North Bay.”
Please no flame wars or meta.
Perhaps people can share nice memories.
These are good causes.
Thank you from me and MO.
