Received this e-mail yesterday from Democracy for America in support of these three Progressive Democrats running for Congress:
Trumpcare is one of the most massively unpopular ideas to ever come out of Congress. But Paul Ryan is determined to push it through. We need to get moving on building campaigns that can defeat him and put Congress in the hands of progressive Democrats in 2018.
As we've learned from special elections this spring, we need to find bold, progressive champions early, who reflect their districts. Together we can help them build campaigns that will expand the electorate and win. Today DFA is endorsing three such candidates who can run the kind of campaigns that will win in 2018.
DFA is endorsing Randy Bryce, running against Paul Ryan in Wisconsin, as well as Laura Moser in Texas and Emilio Huerta in California because the path to winning the U.S. House in 2018 runs through these districts -- and these candidates know how to win.
These could be the most important Congressional races of 2018. There is a key fundraising deadline coming up TOMORROW and there's no time to lose. Will you help these candidates get a strong start? Chip in $3 or more to help elect Randy Bryce, Laura Moser, and Emilio Huerta.
If we are going to have a chance to win control of the U.S. House, these three Republican stronghold districts must have strong candidates that are getting our message out there. Here's why DFA believes these three candidates are worth your support:
- You probably already saw the amazing video from Randy Bryce, running against Paul Ryan in Wisconsin. (If you didn't see this brilliant introduction to Randy, click here to watch it now.) In that video he lays out a populist, inspiring message rooted in his family and how Trumpcare will affect them.
Randy Bryce's down-to-earth, people-oriented progressivism is a breath of fresh air. While Paul Ryan's agenda is driven by the lobbyists who can afford to buy his time, Randy's views on the issues are forged by his time as an ironworker. His support for single-payer health care is informed by his concern for keeping his family covered. Randy's commitment to racial and economic justice is drawn from firsthand knowledge of how they affect his neighbors and co-workers.
- Laura Moser, a working mom turned progressive activist, is running for Congress in Texas's 7th district to build a better America. She understands that racism, sexism, violence, and income inequality are not "check-the-box" issues -- they are inescapable features of our day-to-day lives that must be confronted and resisted.
Moser believes that it is time to elect leaders who take pride in their progressive values: Women's rights, ending structural racism, fair pay, and equitable educational opportunities for all. She will fight for policies that benefit working families in this key swing district in Houston.
- Emilio Huerta, the son of legendary labor leader Dolores Huerta, is running in California's 21st District against David Valadao, a Republican who strongly supports Trumpcare despite the damage it will do his Latino and low-income constituents in California's agricultural Central Valley.
California is one of the key battlegrounds for winning the U.S. House in 2018, with numerous vulnerable Republicans. Huerta is running in a district where Democrats have a 5-point advantage in voter registration. With Trump and his cronies like Valadao massively unpopular, this is a must-win seat -- and Huerta, who has spent his life working against the rich and powerful, fighting for those who are suffering from a rigged economy, is the candidate who can win.
In 2018 we can kick the Republicans out of power, end Paul Ryan's career, and start moving forward in building an America led by progressive values, rather than one led by Trump's greed and hate. These three candidates can lead the way -- but they need your help right now.
Tomorrow is a key deadline for candidates to report on their fundraising. Let's show the DC insiders that we will win Congress with progressive candidates and values. Chip in $3 or more to help DFA elect Randy Bryce, Laura Moser, and Emilio Huerta!
Thank you for building progressive power for 2018.
