Imagine that you have escaped war or religious persecution with your life, survived years in one or more refugee camps, finally made it to the United States and you are told you have to leave your grandparents to their fate. Or your family has been killed and you are an orphan.
Statement of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants
With over 100 years of service and experience we know the importance of welcoming refugees and immigrants, not only to offer humanitarian protection but to continue our national security and foreign policy objectives.
A travel ban runs counter to our heritage, our interests and our economic goals as a country. Banning torture survivors; grandmothers and orphans does not make us safe or strong. Emma Lazarus said it best, “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Join us in standing strong with refugees.
