This year Canada celebrates her 150th Birthday and many celebratory events are being held all over the country for the summer. One of the ways Roots chose to celebrate was to see if they could find Canada’s Nicest Person, seeing as how Canadians are thought of everywhere as nice. They asked the nation for nominees for the lauded position who the nominator felt had made a positive impact on the country. Many names were entered, people voted, and the winner was chosen at the beginning of this month. Incredibly, it was someone who lives in my city!!
Her name is Angel Magnussen and she sews blankets for sick children all over Canada and the world. She has even, with the help of her family, made a registered charity out of it and named it Hugginz by Angel. Angel is pretty, blonde, and has Down Syndrome. She knows what it’s like to be a child in hospital, having been there herself many times with her own health issues. She makes the blankets as “warm hugs” for the children who have to be in the hospital for some time.
The $10,000 prize will go towards making more “hugs” for Angel to give.
