I note that the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that either version of the Republican replacement for the ACA, House or Senate, will leave tens of millions of Americans with no health insurance. It leaves me wondering how any person, with an ounce of compassion, can support this cruel legislation.
Full disclosure: I do not subscribe to any of the current Abrahamic religions. Nevertheless, some parts of the Judaeo/Christian scriptures do resonate with me. I find the following extract from Isiah 10 particularly apropos at this time:
“Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless. What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?”
As far as I know, all of the Republican members of Congress profess to be religious—at least when they’re running for office. Yet most of them appear to support the Republican proposals to replace the ACA. For example, All of the Utah delegation, with the exception of Senator Mike Lee, support the repeal/replacement of the ACA.
I suggest these ostensibly God-fearing specimens give serious consideration to the words of the prophet.
