I love Cracked.com. I’ve no idea how many folks around here are aware of this site, which is a loose continuation of the old school humor mag alternative to Mad Magazine. Well, very loose continuation. I read Cracked as a kid and the site, as much as I like it, doesn’t have all that much in common with the old magazine.
Mostly the site is a bunch of lists on various subjects; history, entertainment, science, pop culture, lifestyle, etc., the kind of sites that litter your facebook pages these days—though I would say that Cracked is more than just that. There is a lot of style and humor that shows care and effort in what they put out that you won’t see in your run of the mill clickbait site. And they also do funny videos. Some are just visual redos of lists they’ve published, others are series of varying kinds. My personal favorite is their After Hours series that’s been going for a few years now.
They have a new video series they’ve been doing this year called Some News, where one of their more well known faces, Cody Johnston, treats various issues of the day with their usual biting humor. Now, it’s only a weekly show put out on Saturdays, and a lot of it is nothing all that new if you’ve been paying attention in the week, but it’s fun, and entertaining, and has a lot of little quirks to it that at least I find really funny.
Today’s episode is all about Trump, specifically the Russia scandal. Johnston has, of course, mentioned Trump and Russia in previous episodes, because he really can’t avoid it on a news orientated show, comedy or otherwise. So he has, although he makes it very clear he’s not enjoying doing so at all. One of his common running gags is any time he mentioned President Trump he looks down at his newsdesk notes and at people off camera like it some kind of insane misprint he can’t believe is true.
Anyway, the video is, for a comedy site, a very good run down of the whole sordid mess. Actually it’s a very good rundown regardless of the source. This is more coherent than I have seen from some major media outlets. I got friends who consider themselves thoughtful, intelligent people don’t understand this whole thing as well. And on top of all of that, it’s funny, and really, with the dumpster fire that is the country right now, a little humor can help. And for that, I say kudos to them.
Enjoy.
