Here’s my capsule movie review for #WarForThePlanet :
I’m going to be sparse in my commentary, because this is a movie that you need to go into the theater with no preconceptions or expectations. Personally, I’ve avoided any reviews or discussions of War For the Planet over the past week, beyond what the trailers provide. And I’ll minimize the spoilers, even if I identify trigger issues, in my short review.
So, the movie is awesome from a cinematography, CGI, and FX standpoint. The subject material is topical & depressing. The characters are fully fleshed out (although there’s a bit too much “Jar Jar Binks” going on in spots).
That being said, I shouldn't come out of a monkey movie wanting to slit my wrists (be forewarned). There were plot holes galore, but said holes were more than covered by the superb moments in the movie. Overall, an outstanding, schizophrenic film that will make you think, and needs to be seen in a theater for max impact.
Here’s the trailer. The trailer is intended to put butts in the seat. That’s all I’ll say.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
