The end of the Republican Party as we know it.
Basically we’ve got the tea partiers, the fundies, and the in the pocket of the deep pockets factions. They hate each other. They can’t get anything done. Mr. Deep Pockets can’t be happy with their performance. And the American public certainly isn’t happy with their performance.
All three factions together can’t get a majority. Separated they are minor rumps of a rump party.
Mr. Deep Pockets is not going to continue funding a party that can’t get anything done. Sure, some of the rich guys are driven by ideology. But most of the rich guys are driven by money. That’s why they’re rich.
I have seen the future of music and they will call it Bebop.
(sorry)
I have seen the future of American politics and they will call it Democrats.
There is a reason why the primary pie fights continue to this day. The Clinton wing and the Sanders wing represent the actual division of the country at the present time. With the implosion of the Republicans and the grassroots self-empowerment of women and people of color this division will become more pronounced and will dominate the discussion. The future of our democratic system is two democratic parties.
I don’t know what names they will go by but there will be a center left party and a radical/progressive party, what some call the democratic wing of the Democratic Party. The big money will flock to the center left party leaving the low wage Republicans high and dry. The democratic wing of the Democratic party will be populist.
We can all see this natural divide. Will it happen in 2020? No. When will it happen? I don’t know. But the Republicans are dead. And we have to have two parties.
And is this terrible? Well let’s look back at 2016. What if it hadn’t been Clinton vs. Trump for president. What if it had been Clinton vs. Sanders? We can argue Clinton would have been better or we can argue Sanders would have been better but either way we would have had a better president than we have right now.
Authors note:
This theoretical article is meant to be food for thought. I, the author, Hairy Larry, do not actually claim this will happen. I don’t know. If something like this happens I will probably remain with the democratic wing of the democratic party but I did happily vote for Clinton in all expectations of electing the first woman president.
Thanks,
Hairy Larry
