The Wasco County Historical Museum is located the River Gallery from the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. The Museum has replicas and period objects from Wasco County’s history. The Museum also has a street scene from the historic Dalles City.
In her book Death of Celilo Falls, historian Katrine Barber describes The Dalles this way:
“The Dalles lies just above the water’s edge, an oasis in a dry and dusty environment. Founded in 1856, the Euro-American town developed on the foundations of the Methodist Wascopam Mission and a U.S. military fort adjacent to the Columbia River, the only east-west route through Oregon in the mid-1800s.”
