The good news inside the White House is that the efforts to defend rookie communications director Anthony Scaramucci from his own thick-headed stupidity come naturally to the rest of his new team. Kellyanne Conway, for example, has spent her entire Trump-attached career defending thickheaded stupidity in the White House. Adding the Mooch to her list of charges is not a great stretch for her.
"I think the most important part of Anthony's tweet was when he talked about FBI and DOJ. He's making clear that even though the documents are eventually procurable publicly, that somebody doesn't want him here, and somebody is trying to get in his way and scare him off from working here, which is a huge mistake.
Scaramucci spent last evening freaking out that his public financial disclosure had been made public and demanding the FBI investigate that. He is not a bright man, and by far the worst character on the show. Kellyanne Conway, however, wants you to know that Scaramucci was just trying to be proactive. He's not dumb, he's just paranoid beyond reason. You can see why Trump has taken a liking to him.
So, of course, the Mooch here saw the release of his own public financial disclosures (he should have been tipped off by the "public" and "disclosure" parts) as a Conspiracy Against Himself, Personally. But Conway wants you to know that the real problem here is: why do her fellow fascist fuckwits have to fill out paperwork at all?
Number two, there are so many qualified men and women who wanted to serve this president, this administration and their country who have been completely demoralized and completely, I think, disinclined to do so based on the paperwork that we have to put forward divesting assets, the different hoops you have to run through because this — this White House is transparent and accountable, and we've all complied with those rules, but they are disincentivizing good men and women. I hope it doesn't disincentivize Anthony."
If Scaramucci can look at the incandescent garbage fire inside the current White House and only think to himself, I bet I could climb to the top of that pile, we can be sure that he will not be disincentivized by a few forms asking him to promise to not be openly crooked.
But the notion Conway is setting forth—that by golly, having to abide by the same ethical ground rules as every other sodding person before them is just so "demoralizing" to Trump's team of C-tier business crooks and petty grifters—is yet another fascinating take on what the administration’s problems are. Trump is finding it impossible to staff his government and prospective hires have been bailing on him left and right; this is because Trump simply doesn't know that many non-crooked people, and these crooked ones keep getting put off by the paperwork. Gotcha.
Again: This Scaramucci fellow is quite possibly the worst character to be added to the show yet. Our estimate of him lasting six months was probably overgenerous by half; in the distance, we can already see the faint outlines of a fireworks factory. Please, oh please, get there soon.
