It didn’t quite go as well as she might have hoped.
Noem faces heat over health care bill
“We used to have 17 health insurance companies in South Dakota. We have two today,” Noem said, adding that, “We are a year or two away from having government run health care.”
In reaction to Noem’s apparent reference to a universal, or single-payer, health care system, many in the audience erupted in loud cheers and thunderous applause.
Health care criticism dominates Noem town hall
It was standing room only at the Pennington County Administration Building Wednesday, as U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem fielded questions in a town hall meeting.
"So, what you're talking about is women losing access to regular screenings of preventative care, birth control, cancer care,” one attendee said. “How do you stand behind that?"
The audience scoffed at some of Noem’s responses in disagreement.
"How in your conscience did you vote for that bill? And how can you do that to us South Dakotans who voted for you?" asked Brook Weber, who registered to vote Wednesday.

With Tom Petty and hope in the air, Billie Sutton begins campaign against long odds, Republican dominance.
