CNN now officially reporting this on Twitter. A reporter at the scene captured some of the mayhem on video (and there’s probably more to come) & said he saw the car run down “dozens” of people. The official number now seems to stand at nine nineteen over 30. One of the victims is reported to be dead.
The driver has now reportedly been arrested and appears to be a white middle aged male.
In Europe, Islamic terrorists run down civilians with vehicles. In America, it’s our own far-right.
I think the comments attached to this post are as factually informative and insightful as anything I might choose to add.
Except this: after the July 2016 terrorist attack via truck in Nice, France here’s what Donald Trump tweeted:
“Another horrific attack, this time in Nice, France. Many dead and injured. When will we learn? It is only getting worse.”
After this extremely similar act of domestic terrorism, what did Trump have to say about the Charlottesville demonstration and car terrorism ? He blamed both sides equally despite the fact that only one side was attacked with deadly force - with a weapon that, for its destructive impact, might as have been an assault weapon or a bomb:
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence, on many sides”
Let’s pray for the victims, and that there’s no more violence today.
