Located on 135 acres south of Bend, Oregon, the High Desert Museum includes galleries devoted to Native Americans and special exhibits, as well as outdoor displays of early American settlers. There is also wildlife—otters and raptors—as well as re-enactors helping the past come to life. Shown below are some photographs of the museum.

Raptors
The High Desert Museum has a raptor program.
Library
The High Desert Museum has a replica of a late 19th-century library. According to the Museum display:
“A library such as this would have provided an entrepreneur or politician interested in the West with essential information for making decisions that shaped the region’s future.”
Fire Truck
On display in the museum is a 1935 Chevrolet Fire Truck. According to the display:
“This fire truck was created from portions of two U.S. Forest Service trucks found in Prineville and Lakeview, Oregon. The Forest Service restored this rare example of an old Forest Service truck to mark Smokey Bear’s 50th Anniversary in 1994. For over ten years, it played an important role in many special events about fire prevention throughout the Pacific Northwest.”
