I forced myself to watch the Trump rally on “Washington Post” live last night. I have to say of course Trump lied and was bat guano crazy in his remarks as well as dumb as a rock (i.e. “cleaning the coal”)
But I want to point to what may ultimately lose him support among his base.
Trump’s speech was as boring as hell!
I think during the primaries it was interesting in a sort of watching a train wreck sort of way. When he was mocking Bush as a “tough guy” or telling Rand Paul that there was a lot to make fun of in his appearance. I mean it was stupid and I had to keep pinching myself to realize this wasn’t a dream. This was a Presidential debate. (I remember when Gore sighing was a scandal or George H.W. Bush looking at his watch.) But I think it was entertaining especially to low info voters. Trump in a way was actually doing a public service by showing how little support the, tax cuts for the rich uber alles, actually had in the country.
I was still shocked watching Hillary wipe the floor with him in debates. He was ignorant and not very bright. But maybe you might want to tune in for spectacle.
Well, I have to say watching the speech last night, I felt and saw none of this. It was one of the most boring things I have ever watched. It was the airing of a bunch of grievances and whining. But not interesting whining. I thought the crowd behind him wasn’t as enthusiastic as I have seen Trump crowds before. It was rambling. It had no point. It was a chore to sit through. I am reading reports that some of the crowd started to leave the place during the speech. That would not surprise me considering how boring it was.
Maybe Trump now has committed the ultimate political sin. His not very bright followers at least want to be entertained. Trump in short spurts may have done this. But is his act getting old? I mean even for most Republicans?
