New Hampshire followed the lead of several other GOP controlled states in our most recent legislative session, passing SB3 (legiscan.com/...) which imposed additional burdens on people registering within 30 days of an election, and proof of intent to domicile. These are aimed at college age voters who register late and have a hard time proving intent to domicile beyond the current semester. Like other restrictions, they also disproportionately affect low income would-be voters.
Yesterday the NH Democratic Party filed suit against the requirements, and indicated they had both State and Federal constitutional issues to litigate. If the NH Supreme Court overturns great...if not they get another bite at the apple in Federal court.
I am active in both town and country Democratic party activities in NH and we rue the lack of support (not even $$, just basic logistics) we get from the state party apparatus. But I am pleased to see them doing something that can benefit (D)s state-wide.
You can see some of the issues outlined, as well as (R) responses in this news report. Keep in mind media in NH is pretty (R)-leaning: www.wmur.com/...
