There was a time when the Republican Party stood for equality, justice, diversity and inclusion; it opposed the Ku Klux Klan and everything its existence stands for. Today, the Republican Party is a haven for racists, bigots, neo Nazis and white supremacists. It didn't begin with Charlottesville; it didn't happen overnight, and it was not a mistake. Republican Legislators in Washington (Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, et al.) have deliberately created the environment which gave rise to the fringe elements of society. Donald Trump didn't happen in a vacuum. By any analysis, the Republican Party gave birth to the likes of Donald Trump. It should not surprise anyone why it is so difficult for the GOP to abandon the only child who has grown up to become the standard bearer of the Party.
Why Are We Back to the Darkest Era of American History?
Before Donald Trump, a) there was Barry Goldwater who did not hide his disdain for blacks and did everything to sideline them b) there was Ronald Reagan who i) coined the “welfare queen” expression, a derogatory term to refer to blacks in general ii) supported the apartheid (policies of racial segregation under a system of legislation in South Africa) iii) cut funding for all education programs designed to help minority to better their lives; Mr. Reagan instead channeled the money to building more jails.
No matter how much Republicans might want to spin their defense for the Neo Nazis and the KKK, one thing is crystal clear: no one comes to someone’s defense unless one agrees with that individual’s position, viewpoint or action. You will not defend a rapist or a pedophile, would you? No one rushes to defend a White Supremacist unless you share his views and his ideology.
Yes, most Republicans (emphasis on MOST) are racist and harbor deep feeling of bias and prejudice towards Blacks in general. Of course, most Republicans – except for the White Supremacists perhaps – would deny it. However, there is no lack of examples to support the argument — full article can be found
