I saw a snippet of interview with Sebastian Gorka on MSNBC talking about his transition from the White House back to working at Breitbart.
He was intent on making a point of how happy he was to be back at Breitbart and that his transition from the White House was in no way a setback, but would actually prove to be a critical mistake for his enemies. He quoted Darth Vader saying “When you strike me down that only gives me more power!” and emphasized how perfectly it described the upshot of the transition. He wanted to put a positive spin on things - I get that - but laid it on a little too thick, so that he seemed almost giddy describing how “happy” he was to be back “fighting against the Left.” and ended saying it was “going to be so much fun!” he was practically rubbing his hands together, just brimming with anticipation of all the fun that waited for him just around the corner.
A couple of things struck me about this: First, between the Star Wars quote, his intent to project a giddy anticipation and saying he was going to have “so much fun!” he projected an image that was so incredibly childlike it was disturbing to think he’d just been a top level advisor in the White House. For some reason my mind My mind flashed to the political figures on the flickering blue TV screen from my childhood in the 60’s .“White House Aides” and people like that were all very serious men, almost always in suits, and speaking calmly but seriously, sometimes gravely, about whatever it was they were talking about.
And then there’s the bit about “the left.” When he said it I had to wonder who he was talking about, my mind flashing through random images of marxist sociology professors in Brooklyn, feminist dance instructors in Taos, Greenpeace volunteers, people like me and you… the usual suspects. But more importantly, why?
I’m pretty sure we know the answer of course - fascists need an enemy, and for the last twenty years or so it’s been us. Certainly on talk radio, Fox News, etc.
“Leftists” have come to fill the role for the public face of the right wing here in America that the Jews did in Germany and I’d kind of like to nip that in the bud somehow. Sooner rather than later, although I’m kind of getting the feeling it’s already too late.
Already there’s millions of people in this country who hate leftists for no other reason than they’ve been told to for so long. Unless the midwest routinely suffers from violent home invasion/robberies by the aforementioned sociology profs and dance instructors I don’t know about. Anyone have any ideas about this? Some kind of high-profile demonstration to show, even if we can’t stop it, at least that we know what’s going on?
Sometimes I’ve wondered what would happen if someone had a business/travelling show in the South where you could go into a room and there’d be a black man sitting in a chair, and for twenty bucks or so, racists could just call him ni__er or just scream at him, verbally abuse him or whatever it is they seem to need to do. I know, it’s an ugly image, and an ugly thought. But would doing it, and publicizing it mightily, make so plain the ugliness that it might actually help end it?
In my mind the “service” would be publicized as a way for people who for whatever reason need to call black people the n-word to do so in a safe, controlled environment so they didn’t have to do it to strangers on the street or make little kids cry.
Same deal with Gorka/Breitbart/the whole right wing power/media structure that’s feeding off using us as scapegoats/whipping boys. Is there some way of publicly offering them some sort of marxist transgender social justice warrior to just go to the Breitbart offices so Gorka and the rest of them can just scream shit, ridicule and abuse them? Apparently that’s what they seem to like. Perhaps even for the President himself. I can’t help thinking the Arpaio pardon and Transgender ban were motivated largely just out of wanting to troll leftists.
It’s becoming obvious that the political dialogue in this country is no longer about policies, just trolling. How much are neo-nazi rallies motivated by actual political goals vs. the desire to get a reaction? Same with the President. And if the right’s just about trolling the left now, and that nothing’s about agenda or policies anymore and we know this, how can we make use of it? Any thoughts?
