Talking is essential, even as Trump tries to imply that a saber is being waved, but like his ceremonial dance in Saudi Arabia, the story is more complex.
Trump’s tweets occasionally reveal by omission or absence, some fragment of Trump’s current preoccupation. This time the projection is extortion, where “talking is not the answer”.
It couldn’t be, as Eric Trump recently suggested, that Agent Orange could be suicidal, in explaining why he ignores criticism.
Of course there should be a response to the recent DPRK missile test that shot through Japanese territory, but Lord Dampnut talking about extortion comes too close to Donnie’s own potential kompromat.
He’s got a lot more to worry about as the NY state charges cannot be negated with a presidential pardon. That makes any leverage to stay out of jail is rendered null as deals are being made by people like Flynn and Manafort, and anxiety rises for some members of the Trump family.
It’s more than that single June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower inasmuch as that meeting was merely a symptom of much deeper and broader connections among a range of actors.
Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and his lawyers seem to think Mueller is probing pre-Administration ties between Russia and Trump businesses. He went out of his way after testifying to Senate staffers this week to say he did not “rely” on Russian money in his business. That’s not saying he took no money from Russia.
It doesn’t take a lot of tea leaves to figure out where Mueller might be going — that Putin is blackmailing our president. Prove that Trump is trying to hide dirty business deals with Russia that Putin knows all about, connect that to Trump Administration accommodations for Putin, and you’re almost there. Surely a president subject to blackmail by a hostile foreign government is impeachment worthy.
