Former New Hampshire Senator Gordon Humphrey, a staunch conservative in his own day, is not beating around the bush. In fact, he’s saying what many others have said: Trump is mentally not well.
Donald Trump is seriously sick. He is dangerous. As a citizen, a former U.S. Senator and twelve-year member of the Armed Services Committee, I urge you to act at once. This is an emergency.
The letter is an absolute clarion call to take serious actions against a dangerous president*. Most striking in the letter is where Humphrey points out that there simply is no reason to “take comfort in the system of checks and balances. The president alone has the authority to launch nuclear weapons.”
Humphrey has sent this letter to Carol Shea-Porter in NH CD1 as well. All of NH’s representation in congress are Democrats, achieved by the narrowest of margins in electing Maggie Hassan as our junior U.S. Senator.
These are terrifying times. While I may not have agreed with Humphrey on many things, this is a man who is placing country over party.
