After years suffocating under erroneous and burdensome government regulation, it is evident that true energy dominance is now here. In late August, Secretary Zinke and industry’s hard work payed off when the Department of the Interior announced that they had recommended to the President that he shrink the size of at least four national monuments, including Utah’s Bears Ears National Monument, which are stifling energy development across the West. And just last week, the bountiful landscapes on the doorstep of Dinosaur National Monument and Utah’s San Rafael Swell were approved for oil and gas leasing by federal land managers. Not only are these recent decisions victories for American energy companies, but they bring the American energy industry that much closer to total dominance -- at a speed that simply cannot be contained.
The oil and gas industry learned to be patient under the hippie Obama administration, knowing that one day soon our time would come to tap the vast oil and gas resources they were too afraid to uncover. That time is now.
At Sunrise Mountain Oil and Gas it is our belief that our national parks and monuments provide the perfect opportunity for oil and gas exploration that will help move our country in the right direction and strengthen our energy security. Why should the potential for energy development stop at the borders of our parks and monuments, or other places like community parks? We applaud the administration for taking steps to shrink national monuments so we can truly begin harnessing every last drop of energy potential beneath the surface and for opening more historically, culturally, and ecologically important places for exploration and drilling without further delay. It is exciting to see the Trump administration working tirelessly alongside industry - really listening to every request we make - to ensure that we are taking full advantage of what our public lands have to offer.
The federal government has no business telling industry where we can do business. President Clinton told us we couldn’t develop in Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah. Now we will. President Obama told us we couldn’t clearcut trees in Cascade-Siskiyou in Oregon. Now we will. And most notably for Sunrise Mountain Oil and Gas, President Obama told us we couldn’t drill for oil and gas at Bears Ears since it was sacred to Native Americans. Now we will.
We are grateful that the Trump administration is lifting the veil and unravelling unnecessary regulations that thwart our ability to capitalize on the oil and gas resources our country has been blessed with. Expanded drilling, mining, and fracking operations on newly available landscapes will finally bring presidents and CEOs of oil and gas companies the payday they’ve been waiting for. Gone are the days where oil and gas companies are crippled by burdensome environmental compliance costs. Our vacations and bonuses will be much more enjoyable knowing that we are no longer constrained by federal overreach that only serves to benefit tree-huggers, not our bottom lines!
We look forward to continuing down this path to achieve complete energy dominance, and we know that with the administration on our side, pursuing our wish lists, the number of places off-limits to development will continue to shrink and our businesses and paychecks will continue to grow. As each day passes, and as more public lands are put back in industry’s hands where they belong, we are getting closer and closer to achieving greatness for the American West.
