It is REALLY raining, which is why it must be stated so emphatically in the title.
It is REALLY raining in the Pacific NW, FINALLY!
It is raining enough to actually get damp in the rain. It is raining enough to clean the air. I wonder what the washoff is going to do to the Pacific and its inhabitants. I hope they like smoky water.
Maybe we ought to dump a little barbecue sauce into our waterways to make the water tastier.
All kind of drought records have been broken in the Pacific NW. This is Trump weather and drought now, He owns it by backing out of the Paris Accord.
The air we breathe, at least very locally, has been washed of smoke muck and is finally breathable.
As to wildfires in the region, the source of our unbreathable air?
Apparently there are NO new wildfires:
September 17, 2017
No new large fires were reported yesterday. Nationally, 49 large fires have burned nearly 1.9 million acres. More than 19,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to fires across the western United States.
Weather: Breezy conditions will develop across the northwestern states as the next system begins to move on shore. Widespread wetting rainfall is expected by mid-day in the Cascades. By mid-afternoon, cloud cover will begin to increase across the Northern Rockies and the Great Basin. Temperatures will again be below normal across the West, but could be as much as 20 degrees below normal across the Pacific Northwest. For the most part, California will miss out on the approaching precipitation as conditions remain dry. Looking elsewhere, a breezy southwesterly flow will continue across the Great Plains, extending as far east as the Great Lakes region. Meanwhile, Jose will continue a slow northward track off the East Coast.

Washington State has 8 wildfires, Oregon 14, California 7, Republican Trump-voting Montana has 14, Idaho has 3.
I do not know if there is sufficient rain to drown out Washington State’s wildfires. Certainly, the cooler air and humidity will aid firefighters fighting fires in this state. It is hard to say if sufficient rain will reach Montana to deal with those wild fires.
Meanwhile, it’s nice to finally have some breathable air after months of coughing and wheezing.
