Only one statement on Donald Trump ending DACA would have been acceptable from Speaker Paul Ryan today, and that would have been that he was going to bring the bipartisan DREAM Act, sitting right now in the House of Representatives, to the floor for a vote so that immigrant youth can permanently stay in the only country they know as home.
Instead, Ryan gave us the usual Barack Obama blame-game and empty words about a “permanent legislative solution” with no mention of actually getting to work to do it as speaker of the House:
“Congress must move immediately to protect these courageous, patriotic DREAMers,” said Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi. “House Republicans must join Democrats to pass legislation to safeguard our young DREAMers from the senseless cruelty of deportation and shield families from separation and heartbreak.”
Paul Ryan says he wants a solution. No one’s stopping him but himself.
