By It, of course I mean the Stephen King film adaptation that hit theaters last night!
As a diehard Stephen King fan, September is an exciting month. I have been anticipating It for months now, and the only reason I didn’t go watch it last night is because I had to teach an early morning class today. The rest of the day was also pretty full, but this weekend I’ll make my way to the theater. Based on the reviews I’ve been seeing, it doesn’t look like I’ll be disappointed. Which is good, because I’m kind of used to being disappointed by Stephen King adaptations, with some very notable exceptions—The Shining, Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, etc. It’s not just a matter of “the book is always better”; there are some real Stephen King film duds out there. I’m looking at you, Desperation (which I anticipated for months as a teenager, only to be left thinking, “That was it?”).
But It holds a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, two horror characters terrorized my dreams (in a good way—I’ve always loved scaring myself shitless): Chucky and Pennywise the Dancing Clown. That iconic scene from the original has stuck with me…
However, it seems that the 1990 It is not timeless. A few years ago, I decided to rewatch it, to relive my childhood terror. And while Pennywise is as creepy as ever, the original is just...well, not as good as I remembered. That’s why I was so excited to hear about the new It.
So off to the theaters I go tomorrow, to hopefully revive my childhood nightmare. Do your best, Pennywise!
September, like I said, is an incredible month for Stephen King fans. I just found out that on September 29, Netflix is going to be releasing a film adaptation of Gerald’s Game, which is one of my favorite Stephen King novels and one I’ve long thought should be made into a movie. The Stephen King hype is real!
Now, on to the tops...

From Puddytat:
I have never, ever recommended the entire commentary of a diary, but I'm doing so now.
Crashing Vor’s diary on how to prep for a disaster had plenty of great advice, but the comments added so many more excellent tips and tricks! A must-read in entirety for those in tornado or hurricane areas.
