Sorry to say, the pickings today might be a little lean. Sorry about that in advance. Anyways here we go.
A Kansas man who fatally shot an engineer from India after shouting "get out of my country" at him and his friend has been sentenced to life in prison.
Adam Purinton was sentenced Friday for the first-degree murder of 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla, who was having a beer with his friend Alok Madasani at Austin's Bar and Grill in Olathe on Feb. 22, 2017.
"Our goal is to make sure that he never walks in the community again," Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said after Purinton's sentencing, according to the Kansas City Star. "That he spends the rest of his life in the penitentiary."
So, justice for Srinivas Kuchibhotla in this case. Hope that bastard never see’s the light of day again.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two years after a bruising and tumultuous presidential race, Ohio's candidates are still scrambling to find out what voters want.
The result: a nasty, expensive fight on the Republican side, with each candidate trying to out-conservative the other. Meanwhile, Democrats are debating nothing less than the future of their party. Do they want a wonky, mainstream liberal, or will they embrace an old-school progressive with loads of charisma?
In one of many wacky twists, a GOP donor just paid for an ad to attack Democrat Richard Cordray for being too soft on gun control — presumably helping his challenger, former U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, in the primary.
Ohio, the quintessential swing state, has often supported mainstream politicians. After all, longtime politicos Gov. John Kasich and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton bested populists Donald Trump and Sen. Bernie Sanders in the state's 2016 primary. But the state's voters overwhelmingly supported Trump in the general election, choosing change over experience.
Voters face their next test Tuesday when the primary pits two Republicans and six Democrats against one another to replace term-limited Kasich.
I can’t think of anything more indicative of the GOP’s current dilemma than this right here. They are fighting over the last few places they see as safe bastions like dogs fighting over scraps of meat. The GOP is in trouble and they are turning in on themselves as a result. You couldn’t ask for a better opportunity.
WASHINGTON — Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz warned President Donald Trump's legal team against playing "into the hands" of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. He said on Sunday's "Meet The Press" that they risked doing so with shifting accounts of the president's knowledge of payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, for instance.
"It seems to me that the approach last week of the Trump team plays into the hands of Mueller's tactic to try, at any cost, to try to find technical violations against lower ranking people so that they can be squeezed," Dershowitz said.
"This is the way prosecutors operate," he added. "But Giuliani knows it too and shouldn't be playing into their hands."
Friendly reminder that Mueller isn’t going away and all of Trump (and now Giuliani’s) squirming is just making them look guiltier.
Democrats are poised for a Senate push to restore net neutrality rules.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) plans to file a discharge petition on Wednesday to force a vote on a bill that would nullify the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) December decision to kill the rules, which mandated that internet service providers treat all traffic equally.
The bill has a real chance of passing the Senate, with a vote coming as soon as next week.
You know what, I am a big enough man to admit I was wrong. I thought the battle for Net Neutrality was a done deal in the senate, and yet here we are, with my guy Chuck Schumer, leading the charge to tell Ajit Pai to stuff it. This is why its important to never give up hope. Go get em Senator Schumer, we believe in you.
The announcement comes less than a year after the Boy Scouts decided to invite girls to join.
“Families today are busier and more diverse than ever,” Boy Scouts of America officials said in a statement about the change. “Most are dual-earners and there are more single-parent households than ever before, making convenient programs that serve the whole family more appealing.”
The name change only applies to the Boy Scouts program, which is meant for children ages 11-17. The Cub Scouts program, for children ages 5-10, will retain the name. Boy Scouts of America, the organization which oversees scouting programs, will also retain it’s original name.
The Boy Scouts of America has seen declining membership numbers in recent years. The organization currently has nearly 2.3 million youth members between 5 and 21, a decrease from the 2.8 million members in 2012, according to officials.
In a statement from the Boy Scouts of America, officials said that more than 3,000 girls have joined the Early Adopter Program and are participating in Cub Scouts ahead of the full launch later this year.
“Cub Scouts is a lot of fun, and now it’s available to all kids,” said Stephen Medlicott, national marketing group director of Boy Scouts of America. “That’s why we love (the new program), because it speaks to girls and boys and tells them, ‘This is for you. We want you to join.'”
Yeah I know, this is kind of a soft story, I said the pickings were slim on this one. Still, I think its a sign we are heading for a more diverse world, and that’s always good.
Anyways, that’s it for Monday. Have a good week everyone.
