You have probably seen by now that Sacred Heart Church in McAllen, Texas has set up a page on Amazon where you can buy items for asylum-seeking detainees who are being held near the border in nasty conditions.
I’m not a religious person, but if your church is stepping up like this, man, I’m on your team.
This is a way we can use the dKos platform to ACT, and not just lament.
My daughter and I started putting things in our carts, but then my wife asked, “How do you know everybody isn’t going to send toothbrushes?” Hmm…. good point.
So I want to make a thread here whereby we form a unit. I’ll tell you what I’m sending, and then you comment on something different that you’re sending, so that we don’t all send the same stuff. Let’s get different sizes, different items, just fill it out. Get something other than what the commenters above you got. Some of the items are marked “priority”, so if you’re not sure, maybe focus on that. But if you have kids, etc., you know what people need.
This ain’t rocket science, so let’s just get to it.
I am sending these things today:
- Gildan Men's Heavy Taped Neck Comfort Jersey T-Shirt, Pack of 10 (size: Large)
- Fruit of the Loom Boys' Fashion Brief (Pack of 5) (size: Small)
- 100 Toothbrush Standard Classic Medium Soft Individually wrapped
- Pedialyte AdvancedCare Electrolyte Solution with PreActiv Prebiotics, Electrolyte Drink, Strawberry Lemonade, Liquid, 1-L (Pack of 4)
What are you sending? Let’s get to work.
UPDATE — Rita in DC points out that this list was organized by someone AT the church, but is not linked on the church’s website itself. SO — if you want to, you can also go directly to the church’s website and do it that way.
