I don’t know if many of us have collections, but I started my art collection a few years ago. It’s not much and not worth a large amount, but it pleases me.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT —
- You know how this works, but as always, a gentle reminder:
- Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Goggies are dogs, too, and moggies are cats. Birds...are birds! Peeps are people. PWB Peeps are Pooties, Woozle, Birds People.
- No trolling the diary.
- If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
- Share any and all pootie/woozle photos or issues that you would like .
- If you have health/behavior issues with your pootie or woozle, feel free to bring it to the community. We just may have someone whose experience can help.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- There are some pics we never post: snakes, spiders, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated.
- There is no such thing as stealing a photo around here, but if you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
It should not need to be said, but ANY/ALL photos that imply or encourage human violence against an animal will be considered verboten! Whether it is “comedic” or no
I noticed when I was considering what to do about this diary, that almost half of my “art” collection had animals as it’s main subject, so I borrowed my friend’s camera and tried to take some decent pics of those pieces I have that are paintings or sketches of animals:
This image, laminated on gilded and painted balsa wood is my earliest one. I acquired it at an auction for $15 when I was just 16. I have no idea who the artist is.
This is not actually one I bought. It’s an 8 ½ “ X 11” pen and ink and it’s my own piece. The original was a tiny ( 3”X 5”) picture from a book of Robert Bateman’s art. The original was also a pen and ink sketch. And the name on the piece is different now. I went back to my maiden name.
This is a print by Martin Glen Loates. I got it a couple of months ago for a few dollars. I checked and it is likely worth a bit more than what I paid for it .
This pen and ink is a very recent acquisition...just last week, and cost $7 at a Salvation Army silent auction. The artist is Lyn St Clair an American artist who does mostly animals and wildlife. I think the puppies are Golden Retrievers.
Another very recent one...”Male Rufous Hummingbird” by Don Li-Leger , a Canadian artist who lives here in BC. The piece is only about 5: x 7” a laminate on board, so not worth much more than the $1.50 I paid for it. Still, I loved the composition, the lighting and the bird. I’m just sorry the camera too such a fuzzy pic of it.
This is a small cross-stitch of a parrot...again nice and blurry and with bonus reflection of my hand and the camera! I chose it for fun.
This one is a complete mystery to me. I have searched all over the interwebs and cannot find either the title nor the artist. It’s driving me nuts not to know anything about this one. It’s just a pasted on copy of a print, so worth only the paper it was copied on, but I love the subject and composition. It looks vaguely “old Master” but I’ve gone through pretty much all of Wiki’s collection of art... and nothing.
Maybe I should do a “Whodunnit” diary and see if anyone can find it for me.
So….that’s most of my animal and bird art collection. Do you have one? Wanna share your pics?
