If you don’t know who Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is welcome to the Daily Kos! Ms. Abrams is an impressive person running a historic campaign to become the first black woman elected governor in the history of the United States. In fact, Daily Kos Elections is endorsing Stacey Abrams because of how singularly impressive she is and for the type of change she promises to bring about for not only Georgians but America’s national political landscape.
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee did a profile and interview with Abrams the other night with correspondent Ashley Nicole Black filing her informative and, of course, hilarious report. After an amazing opening where Abrams lists off her outrageous credentials, she explains to Black her plan to actually reach out to southern voters, a plan that will cost money to accomplish.
Black: So how can the Democratic Party rise again in the south?
Abrams: My goal is to reverse-engineer what Republicans did.
Black: Wait a minute. How to you un-burn a cross?
Tee-hee.
Black: So you’re the minority leader in the House and I am sure that everyone loved having a strong black woman as their boss.
Abrams: I will say that sometimes my style caused friction; but I take that as a badge of honor, because they may not like me but they respected me enough to elect me every single time.
Black: Okay, so I’m going to put you down for “screams into a pillow at night.”
The interview is a joy, and includes some of Abrams highlights in politics, including protecting women’s reproductive rights by convincing conservatives that their pro-birther legislation wasn’t extreme enough and getting them to vote against their own bills. Black then recreates a tenor of the Emmy award-winning Scandal and the critically acclaimed Atlanta to pretty fantastic effect. Enjoy!
