This is a masterpiece by Haitian /Dominican artist Xavier Amiama. I was fortunate to have had
this painting, in the house I grew up in- as a child. This painting was the most inspirational work
of art to me. It comforted me to look at it, through rough times; as well as being a source of artistic
guidance and inspiration throughout my life. It is as beautiful and full of genius; as any Da Vinci,
Michelangelo , or Van Gogh. But because success- in terms of fame and money- as an artist; is
based on politics; this Haitian master; like many other talented artists- never received his full due.
The politics in the art world has always been as full of prejudice and discrimination; as in the
wider culture. Unfortunately wikipedia doesn't even have an English entry for Xavier Amiama.
It is our loss. As is our ignorance of the rich cultures; and gifted people; of those beautiful places
denigrated by western bias and discrimination based on close minded idiocy.
Trumps’ vile words were a personal insult to me- though I myself am not Haitian; but through
the gift of his painting; Mr. Amiama, and Haiti- are my family.
