Hey all.
Since last week everyone decided that it was no longer appropriate to call us “understudies”, I think this might be a nice solution. I am now the GNR “Red Team.” (You know, like the flower).
...Yeah we’ll workshop that. ONTO THE NEWS.
an. 14 (UPI) -- Undocumented immigrants can resume applications for protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program after a federal judge last week blocked the Trump administration's plan to let DACA expire, immigration officials said.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Saturday it would resume processing the applications, though not for people who have never before been granted protection under the program.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge William Alsup said the Trump administration must continue to accept DACA renewal applications, despite President Donald Trump's decision on Sept. 5 to end new and renewal applications, and let the program expire March 5.
Once again, Judges are forcing Trump to play nice and not do whatever he wants. I got to say the past year has given me an all new respect for our judicial system. Hopefully this added pressure will help Dems save DACA in the coming weeks.
Rep. Trey Gowdy stepped down from the House Ethics Committee this week after five years of serving on the panel.
When he was named Chairman of the House Oversight Committee in June, Gowdy asked House leadership to take him off of one of his four committees, according to a spokesperson for Gowdy.
"Four committee assignments, including a chairmanship, is a challenging workload," Gowdy wrote in his letter.
Gowdy added, "I was happy to finish out the calendar year and conclude some matters then pending before the committee."
Another day, another GOP rat fleeing the sinking ship that is the Trump administraiton. More and more of them are fleeing every day.
Chelsea Manning on Sunday confirmed via Twitter that she is a candidate for U.S. Senate.
Three days after making her intention known to federal election officials, Manning tweeted "yup, we're running for senate" with an attached campaign video indicating her intention to run in the 2018 Maryland Democratic primary. She sent a subsequent tweet seeking donations to her campaign.
The 71-second video weaves together images of white supremacists holding tiki torches in Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as protesters clashing with police elsewhere.
"We live in trying times . times of fear . of suppression . of hate," Manning said.
The montage shifts to the U.S. Capitol and President Donald Trump sitting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, both Democrats.
"We don't need more or better leaders," Manning continued. "We need someone willing to fight. We need to stop asking them to give us our rights. They won't support us. They won't compromise."
The video also shows Manning holding a rose and ends with her saying, "You're damn right we got this."
Very exciting news. I wish Ms. Manning the best of luck. She’s a real American hero.
The Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmed Friday that President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will still be interviewed as part of the committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
“Kushner is still going to be interviewed,” Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, of Iowa, said at a town hall meeting in western Iowa. “We’re getting some more documents, and that’s not done.”
Grassley assured constituents Friday that the interview would happen just days after expressing hesitation that his committee could easily secure a voluntary interview with Kushner after his Democratic counterpart, Senator Dianne Feinstein, published a 312-page transcript detailing a private interview with the founder of Fusion GPS, the organization behind the so-called Trump dossier. Grassley said Friday that the committee is just waiting on documents that Kushner has delayed in handing over before conducting the interview.
“We’re going to do that,” Grassley said as an Iowan rebuked him over the committee’s five-month delay in interviewing Kushner. “Right now, Senator Feinstein is wanting more documents, and we wait until we get the documents, go through the documents, then we have a basis for the interviews that we’re going to have.”
Another day, another domino falls int he Russia investigation.
Democrats, led by Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, are forcing a vote in the Senate aimed at blocking the FCC’s plan to repeal net neutrality protections that allow consumers equal access to all internet content.
The plan — amusingly named the “Restoring Internet Freedom order” — was pushed by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, and approved by a Republican-controlled FCC on December 14.
But Democratic senators, who have been vocally opposed to the plan since the get-go, have now organized the 30 votes (more, in fact) that are needed in order to call a vote on whether Congress should step in and stop the FCC’s new plan.
Now for the bad news for advocates for net neutrality: It’s unlikely that the Dems will get enough votes to actually block the FCC’s new regulations from moving forward; they would need a majority of votes in both Houses, as well as President Donald Trump’s signature. Despite its unlikelihood, it’s still a clever strategy, because by bringing the matter to a vote, they’ll be forcing Republicans to go on record about their stance on net neutrality.
Dem Senators are putting the GOP in the hot seat over Net Neutrality. They already got enough going against them going into the next election, are the GOP foolish enough to make it harder on themselves?
Anyways, that does it for this GNR. Viva La Resistance!
