DACA in large part has been an issue that in a stand alone bill would have a bipartisan support, the details of how the bill works wouldn’t be that hard to refine and hammer out. Even though it’s a bill that has GOP support, it has been recognized as perhaps the key crown jewel that Dems cannot allow to fail.
It’s the optics hostage, whatever toxic budget riders and earmarks the GOP wants, reasons that Dems should refuse to sign the bill, it can be made to look like Dems shut down government over it.
Dems need to make a list of bills that republicans are refusing to put up for a vote. Ryan and McConnell are obstructing the movement of bipartisan bills that could be passed. I suspect that this is in part so that nothing but partisan bills are put forward to add to the optics that Dems are obstructing government when the reality is that the GOP is still the driver of this dysfunctional mess.
I’ve been saying for months that DACA was going to cause Dems to cave on serious budget issues, republicans are set to put up a last minute budget that has some steaming piles of crap in it.
As bad as the reality of the estimated cost of tax cuts for the wealthy, the GOP will inevitably try to jam through cuts to “the entitlements”, and when Dems get concessions those concessions can be blamed on Dems for creating an even larger deficit and debt than what was projected.
The GOP is running things, steering the ship, controlling throttle on the debt’s escalation, but still working the optics that this is all Democrat’s fault.
