When the state of affairs is such that the first thing you think watching this video is “at least nobody got shot” you know that there are police officers unfit to wear a badge. The statistics on police shootings of unarmed minority group members proves that there is a crisis in law enforcement.
I say this as someone who was a reserve police officer for 20 years who put in thousands of hours working with officers who would be disgusted at the behavior depicted here.
I got to know Chief Clifford Kline of the Mason, Michigan police department when I was the director of the mental health center there. After at his request, I went into the house of someone who had barricaded himself inside after a domestic dispute, and I helped resolve the matter without anyone getting hurt, he suggested I join his police auxiliary which had all of zero other officers at the time. Once I was sworn in, he told me that I needed to know one thing above everything else. He said, “you have the power to take someone’s freedom, and even take their life.”
Thank goodness, there was a good citizen here in Los Angeles, really a good Samaritan, making a video of the entire incident which could have ended in a tragedy.
I was a volunteer officer with these two departments. As one of the few psychotherapists
with police experience, I treated many officers in my practice and published the
number one website on police stress, Police Stressline.
