Per Politico (so take this with as many grains of salt as you deem necessary), the Senate Dems have released DACA from the 2/8 negotiations. Essentially this means two bills, but one vote is not contingent on the other (if I am mischaracterizing this please correct me).
The good news is that the budget appears to be causing the fiscal conservatives in the Republican House to balk, so Dems will be needed to pass the budget.
That means Pelosi can shut the government down for a DACA fix as long as they need Dems in the House to pass the budget.
The downside is that IF the House Republicans can whip the vote, I don’t see how we get a DACA fix as the only other time the House Dems can obstruct is the Debt Ceiling, and that is after the March deadline. The House Whip already declared any Senate bill DOA in the House (whether they hold up to that has yet to be seen), so it will require Ryan needing Dems to pass legislation to get any fix from the House (and hopefully provide a better bill).
To be clear: I am not passing judgment on Schumer and other Senators for their choice. I am not saying Dems suck. I am reporting what is being said about the DACA/budget negotiations. Being Politico this could be spin (though there are quotes from Senator Murray about the Senate Dems still wanting a DACA fix).
I am writing from my phone, so not able to provide links at this time.
Thoughts? Is this just Politico trying to push the Republican agenda?
