The Planes of Fame Air Museum is located at the Chino, California, airport. The museum was founded in 1957 by Edward T. Maloney with just 10 airplanes. Today the museum has over 150 aircraft, of which more than 50 are flyable. The Mission of Planes of Fame Air Museum is to preserve aviation history, inspire interest in aviation, educate the public, and honor aviation pioneers and veterans. Shown below are some of the British aircraft on display in the museum.
Sopwith
The Sopwith Aviation Company was formed by Thomas Octave Murdoch Sopwith in 1912. During World War I, the company made more than 16,000 aircraft.
F.2B Brisfit
This is a full-size replica of the 1916 airplane built by British & Colonial Aeroplane Co. The replica was built for, but never used in the movie The High Road to China.
Gloster Meteor Mk IV
This was Britain’s first jet fighter and saw action during World War II. The development of this aircraft began in 1940, it first flew in 1943, and went into operation in 1944. It was the only allied jet to see action during this war. It has a maximum speed of 585 mph and a range of 420 miles.
Folland Gnat T, Mk1
This aircraft was used by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Yellowjackets, later the Red Arrows, flight demonstration team. It is a jet trainer with a top speed of 636 mph and a range of 1,151 miles.
