I am hereby denouncing any and all statements I have ever made here at Daily Kos as librul propiganda and embracing the kind and wise leadership of Comrade Trump and the Republican Kommitariat. Sorry y’all. It’s been a good run but I am now rich thanks to the Trump tax cuts and trade assistance wars. I can now afford $5 a month for HBO and consider myself a wealthy American. Kindly piss off and pay for your own healthcare suckers.
But first, a word from our sponsors ...
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
Obviously I’m joking but I really am able to make the $5 payment to my streaming service for some HBO. Quite literally I am over the moon. I can finally stream David Simon’s The Deuce from the beginning. Je suis happy! I love Simon’s narrative style like I love oxygen. And The Deuce is full of the kind of characters and depth of storytelling that Simon is known for. The actors, the writing, and the sets are all on point. It really feels like Times Square in the 70s.
In honor of meaty new television to absorb, I am going to go full on Entertainment Tonight and talk about two other television shows I’m currently excited about. For those of you who don’t care about such things, you can just scroll to the Tops. For the rest, let’s dive in.
Mayans MC
I have only just started this one because, if Kurt Sutter has taught me anything, he has taught me that I like binging on his stories of the outlaw biker world of California. Sons of Anarchy is, in my opinion, every bit as good as the stuff that the pay stations and streaming services have put out. Plus it works with commercials. Mayans promises to be every bit as good, if not better, than Sons of Anarchy.
shameless
Thanks to Netflix, and my partner Liz, I have decided to give the US remake of a favorite British show a fair shake. Seriously, I loved the original version of Shameless mostly because the show’s producers and writers seemed intent on proving that they could write anyone off and still have a great show. The US version has given its actors a lot of meat to chew on and it is very realistically set on the South Side of Chicago. Shameless is incredibly bingable and I am glad I found the US version.
But seriously, we are coming down to the wire here folks. I got a visit from our local Dem canvassers today making sure that we are all registered and pledged to vote Dem this fall. Needless to say, it was a pleasure to meet people that dedicated to the cause to be out on a blustery and cold Sunday afternoon. And it was nice to talk hopefully with other Democrats.
So, with less than a month to go until a critical election cycle, it is time to buckle down and keep up the faith. The next version of the US Congress could be the very check that the system was designed to place on unlimited executive power. The system could correct itself. We might actually be able to pull out of the tailspin.
Yes! We Can!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
