What’s the woman at the center of all those Republican scare tactics, Nancy Pelosi, thinking about? Winning elections, for one thing. And, if Democrats win the House, showing how the party would govern. She gave Politico a little preview—though she also said she’s not even thinking about whether she’ll be speaker herself.
Democrats would start off with campaign finance reform, lower prescription drug prices, gun background checks, and a bill to protect Dreamers, Pelosi said. And while Democrats will conduct oversight on the Trump administration because “the American people deserve the truth,” she doesn’t want it to be in the “pound-of-flesh club” style of Republicans, because “What is important is for us not to be them. We are not going to be them.”
Pelosi won’t be surprised when there’s an October surprise—she’s focused on being ready for it:
An intentional surprise which we should expect and you always expect it. That’s why you build redundancy in your campaign. … We just have to own the ground and get out the vote and understand that it doesn’t matter what happens, we have to do that.
Fight for it. Fight every day.
