I was off to a good start when I met my biological grandfather in 2008 after finding my biological father, who I was mainly interested in finding to learn about my Native American heritage. I share my thoughts, journey, and conclusion about finding my biological family in Me as a Mixed Blood (Conclusions): Brazilian — Amazonian (#83 & #84), Me as a Mixed Blood, 7th Generation Of American Indians Has Right To Know Their Heritage, and finally Me'tis Nation of the United States in Oklahoma - Where Are You? My biological grandfather asked me if I went to church. I said the land is my church and I follow the Red Road. He paused.
“That’s a good start,“ he said. Well, I have received permission from the Me’tis Nation of the United States, which is “backed by and sanctioned by the Me’tis people of Canada,” to begin such a group here in Oklahoma City. For instance, "It is our intention to bring together the best of all of our cultures, as we are intertribal. Each one brings to us, their traditions knowing that Grandfather, the Great Spirit, the One God has spoken to him/her in that unique way which is appropriate to that person.”
Members and those interested in Me’tis culture are welcome, and becoming a member requires DNA, or “documented proof – such as a grandmother’s tribal card or a government record indicating tribal birth.” So, the land being my church as someone who follows the Red Road is more than just a “good start.” Glad he didn’t raise me.
Continuing, my biological grandfather made a “good start” sending his plan to solve the energy crisis with Nuclear Power and a Hydrogen Economy to Republicans. But since that really wasn’t a “good start,” I asked him to send a copy to Barbara Boxer. He did, and it was one of the last things he did. I’m not mentioning his military rank and placement on purpose in order to preserve anonymity, but here’s his letter (may have to increase view to 150%). Since the right attitude is we should get as low a temperature as we possibly can, and that will make it much easier for humans and ecosystems to survive, shouldn’t “Nuclear Power and a Hydrogen Economy” be seriously considered?
