It bothers me that my fellow Democrats seem to be hanging too much of their hopes on the result of the FBI investigation into Kavanaugh’s likely sexual assault of Dr. Ford over 35 years ago.
Keep in mind, the man in the freakin’ Oval Office was accused of sexual assault too. Tens of millions of Republicans simply don’t care.
There are PLENTY of other FACTS to focus on that disqualify Kavanaugh for a SCotUS appointment:
First off, he clearly wasn’t the “choir boy” he portrayed himself to be to Congress and Fox “News”. The number of corroborating witness testifying that he frequently drank to excess is bolstered by his own 1985 Arrest Record where he “threw his ice” at another man before his friend “Chris Dudley” smashed the man in the head with the glass, cutting him and leaving him bleeding badly. As others have pointed out, “you don’t put ice in beer”, and you don’t get drunk on Coca Cola, so his heavy drinking in college certainly wasn’t limited to the occasional beer. No big deal. Many (many) people drank in HS and college, but how many of us drank to the point of having the cops called on you?
The fact he may have been a heavy drinker in HS or college isn’t my point. My point is that HE LIED about his drinking. To Congress. Without hesitation. While under oath. (And it adds credence to Dr. Ford’s claim of being attacked by a heavily inebriated Brett Kavanaugh.)
But that’s not all he lied about.
There is plenty of evidence he lied during his 2006 confirmation to the Federal Bench regarding his involvement in crafting Bush’s Torture Memo’s. He claimed he wasn’t even aware of them at the time. That was flatly not true.
He lied. Under oath. Without hesitation. Again.
During Kavanaugh’s rebuttal of Ford, he went on this bizarre conspiratorial rant of how he was the target of “a Democrat plot” instigated by “The Clinton’s”. ANY possibility of him coming to an unbiased conclusion in any case involving a “Liberal” plaintiff, Democratic member of Congress (or future Democratic president) would be in serious doubt (what if Trump tries to actually “Lock her up” and Hillary Clinton’s case were to come before The Court?) And should any other Republican’s case come before The Court (*cough* Trump, *cough* Muller)… what are the chances he’d be eager to please the Republicans whom supported him?
We already know of his belief that a sitting president should be immune from… not just prosecution, but even investigation… on the grounds it would be “disruptive” (but having a criminal president committing crimes with impunity isn’t?)
The FBI could very well come back with numerous claims against Kavanaugh by women he may have assaulted, attacked, badgered, or was otherwise belligerent towards. It wouldn’t phase Republicans one damn bit. Trump had NINETEEN accusers. They dismissed them all and still made him president.
So Democrats need to stop waiting for the results of the FBI investigation and start making the case NOW that there is LITANY of other demonstrable reasons why this man shouldn’t be withing spitting distance of the Supreme Court.
