So a few months ago I created a spreadsheet I created that merged FEC (the Federal Election Commission) data with data from a few reputable sources for election predictions in an effort to identify candidates around the country in competitive races that have had, for whatever reason, fundraising issues. I have updated this spreadsheet and provided the most recent iteration for reference.
There's new FEC data, and I made a new spreadsheet, this with using the "deluxe" projections located on fivethirtyeight.com. This includes the house and senate races and includes all of the expert data that I had been using previously. The data was gathered October 19th.
To identify the candidates that need help, I took the absolute value of the deviance from 50%, this identifies the closest races. I also added fields to see the CoH (cash on hand) for the R and the D candidate, as well as a simple ratio between the two, a raw numerical difference in the amount, and whether or not the D is underfunded. The FEC data comes from the most recent filings, and the win percentage.
The US Federal Elections are coming up, and if you have extra money, please take a look at the competitive races where the candidates have been forgotten about or are losing the money race for whatever reason. I'm giving up a few things that I would otherwise get until the end of the year for our donations - so please consider this. If you'd like editing permission to help me update this, or add links to donation pages for the candidates, please message me.
I will post a list of my favored donation targets as soon as I can. Unfortunately, money rules politics, but until this changes, small-dollar donations are the best way to affect change other than a) voting and b) volunteering. If you're like me and you have no competitive races and little time for volunteering, if you donate, at least you will say you tried.
