With the increasing probability of the re-election of Republican Governor Larry Hogan, I am becoming concerned about the coattails he may provide for Republican candidates in the State Legislature races.
I am a resident of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. I know the only Democrat State Senator, Jim Mathias, from the Eastern Shore is in a very tough fight to retain his seat.
The goal of the governor and the Maryland Republican party is make the state legislature veto-proof. If this occurs it would allow him to stop all Democratic accomplishments with his veto. While most Marylanders seem to appreciate the bipartisan nature Hogan has been able to work with Michael Busch and Thomas Mike Miller, the Speaker of the House of Delegates and President of the State Senate, I believe all this will disappear if we allow significant gains by Republicans in these races.
I am curious to hear from Maryland residents of other regions to see if they share the same concern.
