It’s a bold claim to assert that any presidential administration is actively laboring to worsen the health of Americans everywhere, but it’s now beyond dispute that the Trump administration’s embarrassing scientific illiteracy is literally killing us. According to recent reports, President Trump and his cronies are now working to weaken EPA radiation regulations in an effort to support special interests that could ultimately damage the wellbeing of millions of Americans.
It’s time for Americans to make say loudly and clearly that Donald Trump doesn’t represent them, and that his scientific illiteracy is intolerable and must go.
Reducing radiation regulations
By far one of the most reprehensible things that the Trump administration has yet tried to do while it’s been in power is the reduction of radiation regulations that could seriously jeopardize the lives of Americans. The current, decades-old guidance from the EPA that the U.S. government officially pushes to the masses accurately notes that exposure to harmful radiation can be life-threatening, even in small cases. There’s an indisputable cancer risk associated with exposure to harmful radiation, but the Trump administration evidently doesn’t care.
Workers are the nation’s important nuclear facilities and health workers populating our hospitals and clinics could all soon be exposed to greater levels of radiation now that the Trump administration wants to cut safety standards. This is just another step in their long process of gutting regulations across the board, which often puts the wellbeing of entire communities at risk. President Trump’s work to derail coal mining and dumping regulations, for instance, has further enabled energy companies and large corporations to dump toxic materials into the nation’s water and airways.
The White House argues that regulations that protect the health of everyday people are bad for business productivity, and thereby need to be slashed. This hopelessly cruel argument illustrates that the people leading this country right now are only interested in their wallets, and certainly aren’t invested in the prosperity of the average citizen.
The vast majority of radiation that surrounds us in our daily lives – like that from microwaves or mobile phones – is utterly harmless and shouldn’t concern us. There are real sources of harmful radiation that we need to be concerned about, however, especially when it comes to hospitals and energy facilities. By gutting radiation regulations, the Trump administration is seriously endangering the public’s health and contributing to a culture of decline where safety is put second after the interest of big business.
The most ridiculous aspect of this entire ordeal is that the Trump-led EPA is turning to scientific outliers to justify their argument, including a whack job who’s literally claiming that exposure to radiation can actually be good for people because it forces their bodies to jump into overdrive. This kind of absurd scientific illiteracy isn’t just embarrassing on the world stage – it’s fundamentally dangerous to our health. If Americas care about their wellbeing, and the health of their children, then they need to make it clear that they reject Donald Trump and his hopeless, second-grade understanding of basic science.
