On Tuesday afternoon, over the advice of everyone, Donald Trump inserted himself on a grieving city, still reeling from the brutal murder of 11 congregants at the Tree of Life synagogue. A massacre that was directly inspired by a hate-mongering conspiracy theory promoted by none other than Donald Trump himself.
And on Wednesday morning, Trump made the visit all about him. (Note: This tweet was deleted and replaced with one that fixed the typo and added a music video of his visit, apparently to drown out the sounds from the protest.)
Nothing about the victims. No words of comfort for the grieving families or the community, just, the protests against him were “small,” “staged,” and probably fake, and Donald had a lovely time. And never mind that he wasn't invited, he wasn’t wanted, and elected officials—both Democrats and Republicans—refused to appear with him. He was “treated very nicely.” Because that’s what really matters, right? And besides this self-indulgent pat on the back, Trump spent a good portion of his Wednesday morning executive time returning to his same theme of hate that motivated the killer in the first place.
Now help get out the vote like someone's life depends on it. Because it does.
