Democratic enthusiasm for North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s announcement that she would vote ‘No’ on Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination gave her fundraising an immediate boost, albeit an unspecified amount. As grateful people across the nation rushed to show their support, Heitkamp’s site went down momentarily, apparently overloaded. But the ActBlue page for Heitkamp’s re-election campaign seemed to do just fine.
Heitkamp’s future in North Dakota is uncertain. Her brother, Joel Heitkamp, joined MSNBC and said he doesn’t necessarily believe several recent polls that show her down by double digits. Still, he conceded, “She may lose. But in the morning, when she's brushing her teeth, she needs to like the person she sees." (You can listen to the interview below.)
As Heitkamp said about a vote that’s become a judgment call after Republicans’ refusal to find the facts: “When I listened to Dr. Ford testify, I heard the voices of women I have known throughout my life who have similar stories of sexual assault and abuse."
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp may be the most endangered Democrat in the Senate, but when it came to taking a gritty vote, she chose to vote her conscience. Let’s send those donations through the roof by showing support for the guts Heitkamp demonstrated today.
Take time RIGHT NOW to tell Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, “Thank you for voting your conscience!”
