I have been watching with interest coverage about plans for investigations by the incoming House of Representatives. I’m quite optimistic about it. Perhaps the greatest threat to this critically important responsibility is trying to manage the sheer magnitude of things to investigate. Corruption runs rampant in this hideous administration, as everyone with any sense of reality and integrity knows.
A comment by bear83, featured in Top Comments last night, gave a partial list of places Democrats could start.
My diary tonight is about my first suggestion. Simply this. Use the House oversight authority to investigate a branch of the government they historically ignore: The 115th Congress.

What I want to see is Democrats investigating the sham investigations conducted by Republicans to provide political cover to those they were ostensibly investigating. I want to see them highlight ways in which Republicans BLOCKED true investigations. In which they obfuscated evidence, hid evidence, disregarded evidence, limited evidence. Put THEM on the hot seat. None of them can disregard subpoenas, as Trump is certain to do.
Democrats are unquestionably going to face charges that investigations are politically motivated. Nothing new there. But their case should be immeasurably bolstered by evidence of Republican failures in investigation in recent years. Let THEM defend their coverups and failures of due diligence. I would certainly include the incredibly expensive sham Bengazi investigations in this process. And Kavanaugh, of course, front and center.
How would you prioritize the investigations to come?
In further notes tonight, on the self-care front, I have made provision for post-election stability, balance and equanimity. I have pre-ordered my copy of Michelle Obama’s book, due out TOMORROW! I am very excited about this. Words of insight and wisdom from one of my favorite public figures EVER. One of my favorite human beings, ever!
Next … Advice to Lindsey Graham. If you want to get your soul back, return to your practice of accepting guidance and wisdom from your moral superior - Arizona Senator Krysten Sinema. Your retrogression as a human being since the death of your conscience and integrity (what little of it you had), John McCain, has been as dramatic as it has been inexcusable. That’s saying something, for someone as poor as you on those fronts. There’s an opportunity to arrest the decline, but not by following any Republican role model. There simply isn’t one that can help. Our new Arizona Senator can help, however. Word to the wise. (Yes, I know the wise isn’t Graham. Know it all too well, as a South Carolinian. :sigh:)
GO SINEMA!!! What delicious news today!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. From Youffraita:
dsnottselliott has a diary-worthy comment in strobusguy's post, My father asks: "What was it I fought for in the 1940s?" I know it's a bit past your deadline but it really is a terrific comment & deserves to be more widely read. [brillig here, and I agree]
From both Chartreuxe and JBL55:
75tthvirgin perfectly nailed it in Barbara Morrill's diary "Orange buffoon in White House declares that votes shouldn't be counted" with the best line I've seen since last Tuesday's election results:
"Awww, the Republicans just got a House dropped on them."
